Having sponsored so many award winning works and documentaries in the past, Albaraka Türk is now sponsoring a documentary describing the life of an important personality that will be discussed a lot in the future and that left his mark on history. People witnessed emotional moments in the premiere of the documentary that described the Bosnian people who struggled to survive in the region after the break-up of Yugoslavia and the life of the legendary leader of the Bosnian people, Alija Izzebegovic, “the Sagacious King”. The documentary brought to light not only the political personality of Alija but also his world of feelings and thoughts that had been squeezed between the lines.

The planning and making of the documentary lasted about 3 years. Doubtless to say, Alija Izzebegovic is one of the most important leaders of the 20th century. He was exactly an exemplary person with his self-sacrifices he made for his people during the Serbian massacre and his modest life.

The documentary was directed by Mahmut Fazıl Coşkun; the scenario was written by İsmail Kılıçarslan; Atilla Güler was the director of photography; the film music was composed by Gökhan Kırdar; editing was made by Oğuz Karabeli. Necdet Konak, the skilled cartoonist, took part in the project by his drawings and narration.

All of the documentary was filmed in Bosnia; 15 people who were very close to Alija were interviewed. Among those 15 people, were his relatives like Alija’s sister Hayriye Skoplijak and his son Bakir İzzetbegovic. In addition, Alija’s best friend, Abdullah Sidran, who is the most important living poet of Bosnia and whose scenarios were filmed by Emir Kusturica, his childhood friends, Ömer Behmen and Eşref Çampara, Dino Merlin, the most popular musician of the Balkans were interviewed.

One of the most important features of the documentary is that it fully describes the story of the rescue of Alija Izzetbegovic who was taken hostage by the Serbs during the war.

  • The first and only documentary made for Alija Izzetbegovic is composed of two parts.
  • The first part is entitled “the Third Way”, the second part is entitled "Alija, if it weren’t for you”.
  • The documentary is expected to be broadcast by many televisions in the world soon.
