Albaraka Türk, which enriches its support for culture and art with new projects and works apart from its banking activities, sponsored the documentary entitled “Türkiye’nin Ruhu” (the Spirit of Turkey), describing Cemil Meriç, one of the most important philosophers and intellectuals of Turkey, who left his mark in the period he lived.
A wide horizon of thought, unconditioned loyalty to the cultural roots of the country he belongs to, a creative mind, a developed feeling of community consciousness and an endless self-sacrifice… The lines above describe Cemil Meriç. He was an intellectual who carried the past, future and present of his country.
The Spirit of Turkey aims to examine our adventure of thought and politics in the last two hundred years especially in the period of the republic, our efforts of westernization and the effects of it on us, our problems in art and literature, to know very well the necessary clues of thought in order to be confident about our future, in short, to question the Spirit of Turkey.
The documentary film project of the Spirit of Turkey is a project carried out under the consultancy of the writer Dücane Cündioğlu, who wrote three books about Cemil Meriç.
The project was produced by BBO Productions, carrying out its activities under the leadership of Şafak Bakkalbaşıoğlu, one of the experienced personalities of the sector. The general producer of the project was Şafak Bakkalbaşıoğlu; Soner Sevgili, the experience documentary producer, worked in the producing team of the BBO Productions; the animation and mystery parts of the film were filmed by Funda Uluköse, one of the producers of BBO Productions.
The scenario of the Spirit of Turkey was transformed into scenario by Metin Tavukçuoğlu.
The film musics were made by the skilled musician, Kemal Sahir Gürel, who also made the musics of films like Kurşun Yarası, Son Osmanlı – Yandım Ali, Elveda Rumeli, and his team.
The film was dubbed by Cüneyt Türel, skilled actor and dubbing artist; parts of Cemil Meriç was dubbed by Ahmet Mümtaz Taylan.
Erdal Beşikçioğlu, who acts in theater, cinema and television series, is the narrator of the ‘Mysterious Stories’ one of the special parts of the documentary, the Spirit of Turkey.
During the production, parts were filmed and archives works were carried out in İstanbul, Ankara, Hatay and Paris, a city with a special place in the life of Cemil Meriç. Interviews were made with 70 important people about Cemil Meriç, his works and the Spirit of Turkey.
